Imagine a team tasked with a 600% increase in workload over five years with no increase in staff. Now imagine accomplishing the effort in such an innovative fashion that the team gains national recognition for slashing the delivery time of multi-million dollar construction projects from 41 months to a phenomenal 21 months.

How did they do it? Florida Department of Management Services Director of Building Construction, Deborah Whitehouse answers this way, "We created conditions conducive for success. We invested in technology and connectivity while encouraging our research-oriented professionals to take non-traditional approaches to finding innovative solutions".

It worked. The Building Construction team has been so successful that seventeen states and the federal government have sent representatives to study their solutions.

"We preferred the Axon hardware and our experience with their crisp customer service was better than with the national brand", said John Askew. The Axon PC's are used in a $41,904 grant program to teach computer job skills to exceptional students in Lake County's public schools.

Part of the team's solution is Axon Computers. The FDMS Building Construction Team, with a staff of only 60, currently manages a wide variety of some 250 state, community college, county, school and municipal construction projects. The Axon machines play a crucial role on the team's Distributed Computer Network which allows for lightening quick and efficient transfer of construction schematics and plan review over the internet.

When asked whether the team chose Axon because it employs disabled Floridians, Director Whitehouse laughed and said, "Obviously you don't know my budget and technical people. The Axon mission and special statutory status are icing on the cake. The bottom line is, I have an Axon on my desk because they help us get the job done on time and within budget."

Tim Traylor, a widely recognized FDMS budget expert, said, "The top considerations in choosing Axon for our mission critical applications are the dependability of the machines and the quality of service". Smart decision-making regarding technology is exactly what makes the FDMS Construction Building Team nationally known for excellence.
