Axon Strikes Out On It's Own

Axon and Abilities of Florida part ways as Abilities moves in a new direction

PORT RICHEY, FLORIDA - October 10, 2000 - Axon Computers, the world's largest nonprofit computer manufacturing operation if its kind, announced today that it is no longer part of the Abilities family.

Abilities of Florida, located in Clearwater, has been the parent organization of Axon Computers from July 1990 to October 2000.  While Axon was established as a separate 501(c)3 corporation, Abilities had managing control through the use of an interlocking Board of Directors.  Recently, Abilities of Florida made a corporate decision to reorganize.  In preparation for a change in corporate structure, Abilities spun off Axon Computers in October 2000 as a completely independent enterprise.  Axon remains a not-for-profit organization and established a new governing Board of Directors.  Axon also retains status as being recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 charitable organization.

Throughout it’s history and during this transition Axon remains focused on the mission of providing employment and training opportunities to citizens with disabilities.  This is accomplished by providing quality technology-based products and services to state and local government agencies within Florida.

It is also important to note that since it’s inception and now as an independent organization, Axon has been certified by the RESPECT of Florida program.  RESPECT helps to administer Florida Statute 413 providing preferential status to products and service made by Florida citizens with disabilities when said items are procured by government agencies.

The Axon program has been successful because of government agency support of the RESPECT program.  We at Axon are very grateful for this support and look forward to continuing with this successful relationship.
